A beginner’s delight, the Kedarkantha trek in Uttarakhand winds through both fragrant forests and snowy peaks.
The Kedarkantha trek is one that holds many a surprise for beginners. The route, which begins in Sankri village in Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand, winds through Govind Wildlife Sanctuary and ends at Kedarkantha peak (12,500 feet). An enduring appeal of the trek is that it offers starkly diverse landscapes if undertaken in March/April. Meadows, lakes, pine and oak forests abloom in welcome of summer dot the lower sections of the trail, while the higher stretches especially after the Juda ka Taal campsite, are swathed in snow. Closer to the summit, trekkers are met with the surreal cluster of Himalayan peaks: Nanda Ghunti, Swargarohini, Kalanag peak and Bandarpunch.
