Tesco & Asda: Supermarket customers ‘furious’ after Easter eggs weren’t delivered


Easter Eggs hit the shelves as early as February this year with them flying off the shelves in the weeks leading up to the big day. However, some customers were left without their chocolate eggs as supermarkets Tesco and Asda were accused of missing them off online orders. 

The post read: “No Easter eggs on my Easter Eve grocery delivery? You didn’t have a single egg left to substitute? None?”

Another said: “Sorry kids, looks like an Easter egg hunt round the garden is another thing cancelled for you this year!”

“I’m furious, it said they were in stock online but they weren’t delivered and were left out of grocery delivery,” a third commented.

Meanwhile, another shopper explained that the huge range of chocolate ordered wasn’t even substituted.

“We have contacted customers whose eggs were out of stock and hope they were able to swap this for a different egg or another one of our great Easter treats.”

Easter egg sales have climbed £48million, almost 50 percent to £153million compared with last year, according to figures from analysts Kantar. 

Head of retail and consumer insight at Kantar, Fraser McKevitt, said: “There are signs of people making a special, even symbolic, effort this year.

“Grandparents might be showing up with additional treats after 12 months of restrictions.

Marks and Spencer said its online Easter gifts were up 3,000 percent, while Easter egg sales were up by 86 percent. 

An Asda spokesperson said: “We’ve seen many customers choosing to buy their Easter eggs early and buying more than they would normally – the average number of eggs bought ranging between three to five eggs per person.

“As a result, we’re predicting sales of over 19 million Easter eggs together with 33 million individual hot cross buns.”
