ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – The City of St. John’s issued a warning to a downtown home last week for operating an unauthorized hair salon — but the “Curl Up and Dye” beauty parlour is a set piece for a locally filmed television show.
Anne Pickard-Vaandering and her husband Julian Vaandering own the home, which was decorated on the outside to look like the “Curl Up and Dye” salon for the Citytv police drama “Hudson and Rex.”
She says she and her husband got a letter on Monday from the city outlining several bylaw violations for operating a business without a proper permit.
The letter dated Aug. 18 said officials inspected the building and determined the Curl Up and Dye beauty salon was operating in violation of four different sections of the city’s building bylaws.
Pickard-Vaandering says her husband replied with an explanation and the city contacted them Thursday to say the file had been closed.
She says she’s been chuckling about the situation all week, adding that she posted about it on social media in hopes of sharing a light-hearted laugh.
