Sophie Wessex turns heads in green floral dress for Congo visit – pictures

Sophie Wessex has arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo where she will aim to highlight the impact of sexual and gender based violence in conflict, as well as the importance of supporting survivors. This afternoon, the royal met with representatives from TRIAL International, a non-governmental organization which is dedicated to fighting impunity for international crimes in conflict, in Bukavu, South Kivu Province.

For the occasion, Sophie donned a green tea dress dotted with black and white flowers from the British-based designer Suzannah London.

The dress had three-quarter sleeves and a flowing skirt that reached Sophie’s shins.

Its neckline was v-shaped and reavealed a gold chain featuring a large gold pendant that rested on Sophie’s chest.

Her other accessories included small, gold-hooped earrings.

Sophie’s hair was tousled in natural-looking waves and she wore minimal make-up – a slick of lipgloss and lashings of dark mascara.

Royal fans were quick to comment on the Countess’ visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo, with some praising the royal’s work.

Twitter user @QueenHearts09 wrote: “Good move from @RoyalFamily! We love to see more of the Wessex as working Royals. They deserve it. Countess Sophie will do this excellent.”

Susan Breen commented: “I really like Sophie Wessex, she works hard.”

User @notaroyalexpert wrote: “More great work being done by Sophie on gender-based sexual violence, and helping to remove the stigma around the topic!”

Diane said: “You don’t have to work about two hours with your hairdresser and make up-artist and wear 50k coats to look absolutely beautiful. It always comes from the inside!”

User @pastoralview commented: “What a great representative from the UK, she is so friendly and cheerful. I hope all goes well.”

User @lovefamilywales added: “Amazing Sophie! I love her.”

Like today, Sophie often rewears her favourite garments, and prefers dresses, florals, and casual suits. Her recycling of outfits suggests an awareness for both financial and environmental issues.

Fashion expert Samantha Harman previously told Express.co.uk: “I think what women can relate to about Sophie’s style is that you get the impression that this is her actual wardrobe.

“She’s a working royal, but also a mum who is going about running errands and juggling work and family.

“You get the idea that she’s got a closet of good quality pieces that she wears on repeat. And that’s what great style is all about – adding the pieces into your wardrobe that you can dress up or down and wear forever.”
