Sophie Wessex shines in new video ‘bringing glamour and glitz’ to virtual awards ceremony

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, 56, is said to be the Queen’s most-trusted daughter-in-law and the hardworking royal provides vital support to the Crown. Earlier this week, the Countess honoured her ties to Women in Defence UK by announcing the organisation’s Woman Of The Year award winner in a virtual ceremony.

Women in Defence UK shared the new footage of Sophie on Twitter.

The tweet read: “For those who missed the moment, here is Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex presenting the Woman of the Year award to @Beth_Marie at the #WiDAwards2020 – congratulations to Beth Marie once again!”

Speaking in the clip, the Countess said: “Good evening, thank you so much for having me.

“It’s been wonderful to watch all of the winners receive such wonderful accolades for their work.”

The Countess added: “And having been part of the judging panel, having read all of your citations, it was really hard to select the woman of the year.

“And it is a huge honour to be able to open this wonderful gold envelope and to announce that the woman of the year 2020 is Beth Marie Norbury, Babcock.

“Congratulations Beth Marie this is a very well-deserved award and our heartfelt congratulations to you, well done, how do you feel?”

Responding to the duchess an emotional Beth said: “I think I might cry.”

Sophie’s engaged body language makes her excitement contagious, according to Judi.

She said “Her eye-smile, her head tilt and her wide mouth-smile all suggest an air of anticipation and shared excitement as she connects with her audience.

“She really does look as thrilled to be there as the nominees.

“Sophie raises her brows and tosses her head back as she says ‘Thank you so much for having me’ to her hosts and those gestures add a suitable touch of humility, making that message look congruent.”

Judi likened Sophie to an “awards pro” for the way she handled the award announcement.

The analyst said: “Like an awards pro, Sophie adds a touch of drama by holding the gold envelope up before opening it and then there is that moment of pause before she announces the name.

“Once the winner is announced Sophie switches to host mode, asking her how she feels and beaming with what looks like pride and warmth as she listens to her speak.”

Sophie and her husband Prince Edward live at Bagshot Park in Surrey with their two teenage children Lady Louise Windsor, 17, and James, Viscount Severn, 13.
