Russian media accuses Ukraine of launching grenades sparking war fears –‘Grossly violated’ | World | News

An officer of the LPR to the JCCC slammed the attack, claiming that it violated the Minsk agreement that has led to an uneasy on-off ceasefire between Ukraine and the LPR.

They said: “Ukraine’s armed units grossly violated the ceasefire regime, using weapons that in accordance with the Minsk agreements, should be withdrawn.”

The Minsk accords were agreed in February 2015.

They declared a ceasefire between Kiev the LPR and another self-proclaimed republic in Donetsk.

There was also agreement on the withdrawal of military personnel and the resumption of economic ties.

This was following the emergence of the breakaway republics as a reaction to the pro- EU and anti-Kremlin Maidan movement in Kiev and western Ukraine in 2014.

There was also an agreement that there would be constitutional reform in Ukraine which guaranteed the national rights of the republics.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasised that the fulfilment of the Minsk agreements is the only possible solution to end the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.
