Next James Bond shake-up: Henry Cavill and Tom Hardy fall behind to new frontrunner | Films | Entertainment

After No Time To Die, Daniel Craig stepped down from his role of 007 after 15 years. Since then, the race to become the next James Bond has been heating up. While the official announcement of the next actor will likely come by the end of the year, the ongoing odds are the best chance we have of figuring out where things stand with actors. This week, a switch-up in the odds has placed a new frontrunner at the top of the list – but this spells bad news for fan-favourites Henry Cavill and Tom Hardy.

Cavill has been near the top of the Bond odds for weeks, teetering over the finish line alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

And he has always been a great choice – especially because he previously tried to become 007 back in 2005. He auditioned against Craig to become the hero in Casino Royale – but missed out. He was told he was “too chubby” for the role. Cavill later admitted he didn’t know how to train or diet, giving him a disadvantage.

At the moment, he is in third place, with a powerful 11/4 on becoming the new-and-improved James Bond.

Ahead of him is Taylor-Johnson, who has a staggering 5/2. He recently became a favourite in the odds as rumours hit that he had some auditions with Bond bosses Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson behind the scenes. Although these reports were never confirmed, his odds have been slashed drastically. But still, he is only second place at the moment.

At the top of the Bond odds leaderboard is a new favourite from BBC screens: James Norton.

Hardy has of course made a name for himself with performances in such massive blockbusters as the Venom series, Dunkirk, and Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

The British hard-man has since been called the best option for Bond by fans, and his odds did reflect this for some time – but things have gone a little sour for the 45-year-old actor.

At the moment, Hardy has meagre 10/1 odds on becoming the next James Bond, placing him behind Cavill, Taylor-Johnson and Norton.

What’s more, he is being beaten by another British star who just claimed a main role in the spectacular Dungeons & Dragons movie, Honour Among Thieves.

Regé-Jean Page has become another favourite with Bond fans, as he is young, talented, and dynamic enough for the role.

After breaking into the mainstream in Bridgerton, Page has grabbed some massive roles, including in Netflix‘s The Grey Man, and the aforementioned fantasy D&D romp.

As a result, he is coming in ahead of Tom Hardy with a strong 9/1 on becoming the next James Bond.

Until the next James Bond is announced, watch the 007 movies on Prime Video now.
