Next James Bond: Henry Cavill breaks silence on 007 – ‘It’s an honour’ | Films | Entertainment

Ever since it was announced that Daniel Craig would be stepping down as James Bond after No Time To Die, many British stars have been in the running to take over. Included in that line-up is legendary actor Cavill, who has ingrained himself in many facets of nerd culture over the past decade. Now, the Superman star has spoken out on if he would take the role for himself.

Cavill has spent a lot of his time over the past few years playing Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix show The Witcher.

Between slaying Strigas and battling Djinns, Cavill has been taking on new, espionage adventures in Apple TV+’s movie Argylle.

While promoting the film, the 38-year-old responded to rumours he might be taking over as Bond, saying: “Look – I hate it when people start a sentence with ‘look’ – it sounds like they’re lying about something.

“I think it would be very exciting to have a conversation with the producers.”

Cavill, forever modest, went on to add: “In an ideal world, I’d never have to turn anything down.

“Nothing is off the table. It’s an honour to even be part of that conversation.”

His director for Argylle, Matthew Vaughn, added that Cavill was “born” to play Bond.

He explained that he wanted to “nick” him for his new movie before Bond bosses did.

This isn’t the first time Cavill has discussed taking on a Bond role, however.

In fact, the Enola Holmes star previously auditioned for the role back in 2005.

He went up against Craig for the role of James Bond in the reboot of the series, Casino Royale.

The change came after Pierce Brosnan’s final film in 2002, Die Another Day.

Unfortunately for Cavill, he was deemed “too fat” for the role by the film’s casting crew.

He told Insider: “It was his tough love way of saying: ‘Look, mate, you’re in a Bond screen test. Next time you come to a screen test, really focus hard on making sure you lean up if it’s for something like Bond.’

“And I wasn’t by any means chubby, but I was probably overweight for taking my shirt off on camera.”
