Next James Bond: Doctor Who star confesses ‘I’ve been on Barbara Broccoli’s new 007 list’ | Films | Entertainment

Speculation over who could replace Daniel Craig as James Bond continues to be rife over a year since No Time To Die hit cinemas. The outgoing star was originally cast in 2005, beating future Superman star Henry Cavill to debut in Casino Royale. Yet now a Doctor Who star has confirmed he was on EON Productions’ potential new 007 list for the reboot back then too.

David Tennant, who replaced Christopher Eccleston as The Doctor the same year as the last Bond auditions made the confession on the second episode of the Acting for Others Presents podcast.

The topic came up during the 10th Doctor’s conversation with I May Destroy You’s Paapa Essiedu, whose current best odds at replacing Craig are 40-1.

The rising star asked the 51-year-old Scot: “How about you? …have you ever found yourself in the conversation for James Bond? Have you ever met The Broccolis?”

Take it all with a pinch of salt, but a spokesman for the bookies’ said: “The recent success of House of Dragon was bound to shake up the Bond market, but Matt Smith seeing his odds half for the role is clearly a major shift – one that’s worth paying attention to given the keen fan backing. He’s of the right age to take on the role, and has proven he’s a diverse and talented actor – and he’s no stranger to taking on an iconic British character, either!”

Acting for Others Presents is available to listen to on all podcast platforms now.
