Each floor of the downtown Millennium Library will close for renovations on a staggered basis, beginning Monday.
The closures will allow the City of Winnipeg to replace more than 100,000 square feet of carpet, install new energy efficient lighting and replace the fourth-floor service desk at the 251 Donald St. facility.
Once the upgrade is complete, new “smart” LED lighting will be able to automatically adjust its level based on occupancy and daylight and help reduce the library’s energy use by 55 per cent, the city said Thursday.
Each of the four floor closures is expected to last about four weeks, with the $761,290 renovation expected to wrap up by late 2022. Patrons will be able to borrow and return books, access information services, and visit the library’s Community Connections space throughout the renovation.
