Meghan Markle wore a Stella McCartney Cape Dress in black for Queen Elizabeth’s state funeral on September 19. This was a poignant decision by the Duchess of Sussex as she already owned the same dress in navy. But what was the story behind Meghan’s black dress?

According to the Instagram page @royalfashionpolice, the Duchess’ funeral outfit was a “last minute order”.

They wrote on Instagram: “Many of you have wondered if the British Royal Family mourning outfits are made in advance or last minute.

“From what I have been told, Meghan’s black cape dress appeared to be a last-minute order.”

The royal fashion expert also commented on the Stella McCartney dress that the Duchess wore for her wedding reception in 2018.

They added: “The Stella dress Meghan wore for her wedding reception, that same lead seamstress along with other seamstresses finished that dress the night before the wedding at 2am.”

What else did Meghan wear for the Queen’s state funeral?

For footwear, the Duchess opted for a pair of Stuart Weitzman Black Tippi Pumps.

These were “black suede pumps with leather heels” according to the website.
