Mark Zuckerberg net worth: Facebook owner has staggering sum in the bank

Mark Zuckerberg is the co-founder and owner of Facebook, who also owns Instagram and WhatsApp. On October 4, Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram went down in a major outage affecting millions. But how much does the young entrepreneur has in the bank?

Mark studied psychology and computer science at Harvard where he was considered a programming prodigy.

In 2004, he created Facebook from his Harvard dorm room.

With fellow classmates Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes, and Eduardo Saverin, he launched “Thefacebook” which would later become the biggest social network.

In 2010, when Facebook reached 500 million-user, Mark Zuckerberg became one of the richest men in the world.

Surprisingly, Mark has an annual salary of $1.

Many multi-million company owners like Zuckerberg pay themselves low salaries in order to increase the company’s profits.

In 2012, a Facebook share was only $38.

That same year, photo and video-sharing social platform Instagram was acquired by Facebook for $1 billion.

A few years later, in 2018, the company share sales generated $5.3 billion. In 2019, Mark sold $1.86 billion worth of Facebook shares.

In 2014, Facebook bought messaging and social network WhatsApp for $16 billion.

At the time of writing, a Facebook share is worth $325.

Mark is married to Priscilla Chan, a Harvard student he met at a fraternity party.

Zuckerberg and Chan currently own $200 million worth of real estate, including 700 acres in Hawaii, several homes in Palo Alto, and a mansion in San Francisco.

However, their main home is a modest 5,000 square foot home in Palo Alto which he bought in 2011 for $7 million.

But Mark owns many other properties around the United States.

The billionaire has two houses in Hawaii which are worth $100 million and a $59 million mansion on Lake Tahoe.
