La Palma volcano eruption LIVE: Second earthquake hits as lava advance is ‘unstoppable | World | News


Earlier in the evening, at around 9pm local time, a new eruptive fissure opened in the municipality of El Paso, forcing new evacuations. This was followed by a slightly smaller earthquake of magnitude 3.8. The lava is reportedly still moving towards the sea, although it is now moving at a slower rate than originally expected.

The volcano has so far destroyed over 100 homes and thousands of people have been evacuated from the islands. No fatalities have so far been reported.
