The 22-year-old married woman approached the ambulance vehicle on Monday in Jaipur. After promising her food, the ambulance driver and his accomplice drove her to a remote location where they raped her, according to officer Surendra Pancholi.

Both the ambulance driver and his accomplice were taken into custody and are currently being interrogated.

According to the Times of India, the alleged victim’s statement was recorded by police and a medical examination has been carried out.

India is one of the most dangerous places in the world for women with an average of 90 rapes reported in the country every day last year.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau, large numbers are thought to go unreported.

Last year, a six-year-old girl died in hospital ten days after being attacked.

She was allegedly sexually assaulted by her cousin while she was at home in the Utter Pradesh state in northern India.

Her death sparked furious debates across the country as her family lay the girl’s body in the street.

Back in September, a 19-year-old woman died following an alleged gang rape.

“Her tongue was cut and strangled with a dupatta scarf.”

The local police chief said: “The girl’s post-mortem has confirmed rape.

“The two accused had been arrested already.

“We will file charges for rape, murder, and also under the National Security Act.”

In 2012, a 23-year-old woman was gang-raped which sparked nationwide outrage and a tough new anti-rape law was introduced.

According to NCRB 2019 statistics, Rajasthan[5] reported the highest number of rapes among Indian states.

Other states in the Hindi heartland region, across North India, such as Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Chhattisgarh, also have the highest incidence of sexual violence against women.

Among metropolitan cities, the national capital of Delhi continued to have the highest incidence of rape at 1253 cases in 2019, while Jaipur had the highest rape rate (per 100,000 population).
