Donald Trump news: Ex-POTUS vows to ‘take back the White House’ in new video speech | World | News

The former US President has released a video statement to his supporters thanking them for “the love and affection” shown to him following his departure from the White House. In his address, Mr Trump appears to hint at a return to politics, claiming the Republican Party will be “a lot stronger than it is now.”

He said: “I want to thank everybody for the tremendous support you’ve shown.

“We’re going to take back the Senate and take back the House, we’re going to take back the White House, and sooner than you think, it’s gong to be really something special.

“But the love and the affection and the respect that you’ve given all of us is really important.

“The Republican Party is stronger than it’s ever been and it’s going to be a lot stronger than it is right now.

“We’re going to turn it around. We’re gong to turn it around fast. Thank you all very much, that support has been incredible. Thank you.”

It comes after the Republican hit out at President Joe Biden’s policies during his first speech in three months.

Speaking at the Greenville Convention Center in North Carolina Saturday night, the former president accused Mr Biden of destroying the US.

Mr Trump lashed out at the Biden Administration’s stance on illegal immigration, gas prices and cyber security.

He said: “As we gather tonight our country is being destroyed before our very own eyes. Crime is exploding, police departments are being ripped apart and defunded, can you believe that. is that good politics, defund our police?

“You look at our border, it’s wide open. Illegal immigration is skyrocketing at a level we’ve never seen before, and this is over a period of a few months.

“Drugs are pouring in, gas prices are soaring, our industries are being pillaged by foreign cyber attacks.”

During his speech, Mr Trump also mentioned the theory that coronavirus leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, a controversial claim the then-president first spoke about last year when the virus emerged.
