Dog news: ‘Follow my lead’ Pooch takes cops to men thrown from truck in horror crash | World | News

Police said the vehicle appeared to have fallen into a wooded area from an embankment, meaning it would not be visible to passing drivers. Tinsley the dog, described as a ‘real-life Lassie’, had been travelling with the two men, Cam Laundry, 31 and Justin Connors, 40. Another dog travelling in the truck was killed after being hit by a car.

Police in New Hampshire, US, were led by German shepherd, Tinsley, along the state’s border with Vermont to the men involved in the crash.

The pair were found alive but suffering from hypothermia.

Had it not been for the hero canine, Tinsley, Captain Tim Cohen of the Lebanon police said it would have been hard for any motorist to notice the crashed vehicle.

Captain Cohen said: “It’s pretty incredible that we were able to help these men, not even knowing that they were there to begin with.

“It was a good stroke of luck.

“The dog definitely played a large part in this because it drew our attention to that area.”

Mr Laundry and Mr Connors had been heading home from dinner before the incident.

Mr Connors’ bulldog was hit by a car and found dead on the side of the road.

Onlookers had alerted police to the German shepherd roaming on the bridge.

Tinsley then took the police back and forth on the Veterans Memorial Bridge between New Hampshire and Vermont.

After 10 minutes, the police followed the canny canine to a gap in the road, which revealed the scene of the crash.

Captain Cohen added: “Of course we care about the dog.

“We don’t want to see it get injured, but it can also pose traffic hazards to motorists or pedestrians.

“We wanted to make sure the dog didn’t cause an accident, especially on the interstate.

“Tinsley wouldn’t really get near anybody.”

Lebanon police chief Phillip Roberts said he had never seen a household pet perform such an act.

Mr Laundry is now at home while Mr Connors is recovering in hospital following leg and neck surgery.
