Doctor Strange 2: Patrick Stewart ‘returning for more MCU after Multiverse of Multiverse’ | Films | Entertainment

On Super Bowl Sunday last month, a truly epic trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness dropped, promising a crazy journey through alternate realities for Benedict Cumberbatch’s Marvel sorcerer. But perhaps the biggest surprise had to be when the mystical superhero was arrested and brought before what was clearly Patrick Stewart’s Professor X. We could hear Charles Xavier’s voice as the side of his bald head was seen moving towards Strange in his wheelchair.

Professor X may have died in 2017’s Logan but this could well be a variant of the X-Men leader.

MCU fans have been speculating for weeks that he’s a member of the Illuminati, a council of Marvel big brains who could well be policing the multiverse just as the TVA was doing for Time in Loki.

Doctor Strange 2 is rumoured to be full of cameos by non-MCU Marvel characters from the Fox and Sony movies, of which this is expected to be one.

However, a new report claims that Stewart’s Professor X may well be sticking around in the franchise beyond the Multiverse of Madness.

The multiverse epic saw variants of different superheroes colliding, so maybe he’ll be back for such a blockbuster.

Whatever the case, Stewart teased of his return in Doctor Strange 2 to Jake’s Takes: “Professor X would be extraordinarily cautious and watchful [of Doctor Strange], and perhaps feel a little insecure. Because there is something that is potentially dangerous about this man. I think that would put Professor Xavier on guard.”

One theory is that Charles Xavier and the Illuminati have arrested Doctor Strange for meddling with the multiverse in Avengers Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home. As a result, they may want to destroy the MCU for good.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits cinemas on May 6, 2022.
