BRISBANE: Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey on Saturday created the record for taking most catches on Test debut.
Carey took a total of eight catches in the first Ashes Test against England here at the Gabba in Brisbane, surpassing India’s Rishabh Pant and five others who had taken seven catches on their debut in the longest format.
Chris Read, Brian Taber, Chamara Dunusinghe, Peter Nevill and Alan Knott had also taken seven catches on their Test debut.

Nathan Lyon, skipper Pat Cummins, David Warner and Travis Head were the standout performers as Australia defeated England by nine wickets on Saturday.
Chasing a target of mere 20 after England collapsed on the fourth morning losing their last eight wickets for just 74 runs, Alex Carey (9) and Marcus Harris (9*) took the hosts to victory in 5.1 overs.

England was bowled out for 297 in their second innings on Day 4, as off-spinner Lyon led the Aussie attack with figures of 4/91, en route reaching the landmark of 400 Test wicket.
