ABBA joins Tik Tok with new video ahead of major announcement on Thursday | Music | Entertainment

ABBA hadn’t even joined the streaming video platform and the Swedish superstars had already generated hundreds of millions of views. The #DancingQueenChallenge alone has had over 160million views on Tik Tok. The band has teased there will be a major new announcement this coming Thursday, which fans hope will be about the eagerly-awaited new singles, album and tour. Today ABBA also officially joined Tik Tok.

Over the past twelve months, fans inspired by ABBA have posted Tik Tok videos and challenges to classic tracks like Slipping Through my Fingers and Chiquitita.

Overnight, the band posted a low-key version of their signature tune Dancing Queen. It’s a simple, acoustic piano version and fans are already going crazy.

One wrote: “ABBA ON TIK TOK? ! Ok my life is complete” and another added: “Nice to see the greatest band of all time has arrived on Tik Tok.”

The band has been teasing a major announcement for September 2.

Last week a mysterious social media post simply said: ‘Join us at ABBA Voyage” with the accompanying date of September 2, 2021.

Could this be the title of a new album? The first reports of brand new ABBA music started over three years ago but delays and then teh worldwide pandemic have meant fans are still waiting to hear anything.

So far, two tracks have been confirmed called I Still Have Faith in You and Don’t Shut Me Down.

With so many delays, Bjorn stressed new music will be released this year: “It’s not a case anymore of it might happen, it will happen.”

There is also the intriguing prospect of a tour that will use cutting-edge technology to bring virtual reality digital versions of the band members back onto the stage from their heyday.

The project was announced back in 2016 and has been developed with Americal Idol and Spice Girls supremo Simon Fuller.

At the time, Bjorn said: “He (Fuller) came to Stockholm and he presented this idea to us that we could make identical digital copies of ourselves of a certain age and that those copies could then go on tour and they could sing our songs, you know, and lip-sync. I’ve seen this project half-way through and it’s already mind-boggling.”

The band members were spotted in London in 2020, with rumours they were recording new music and potentially filming for the tour at London’s Ealing Studios.
