7 ways you can add more colour to your wardrobe

Most of us gravitate to easy colours to wear. That means boring neutrals like Blacks, Browns and Navy Blues. If you’re someone who doesn’t like too many eyes on you, if you wear a bright Red dress, you can add a bit of colour to your wardrobe – just a little more subtly. Embrace more vibrant outfits with these 7 tips on adding colour to your wardrobe…

1. Handbags

It’s time to let go of that basic Black or Brown bag you carry with everything and swap it for a more exciting colour that is coordinated with your outfit. More than all other accessories, a handbag or backpack is something we can’t do without when we’re stepping out, so why not opt for brighter shades? Your Brown everyday handbag can be replaced by this Yellow handheld bag from Allen Solly with Black piping, while the Pink textured clutch from Code is all you need in place of your usual Black party clutch.

2. Watches

If you love to wear a watch, this is an easy tip on adding colour to your wardrobe for you. Just swap your plain Black watch with one that has a colourful dial or strap, or even better – both! Pretty watches to pick include the Purple analog watch from Fastrack with a floral-motif dial and Timex’s analog watch in Red and Gold with stud embellishments.

3. Makeup

If you generally shy away from lots of bright and vibrant colours at all costs and like blending in with the crowd, you can still add colour pops that you’re comfortable with. A bright lipstick or glittery nail polish can make a bold statement without too much effort. You can try Colorbar’s Starlit Lip Gloss range for a rich colour payoff. Lakme’s Color Crush Nail Art with so many different shades will add just the right amount of liveliness to your overall look.

4. Scarves

A statement scarf, especially one detailed with prints and patterns, can inject so much personality into your outfit. And you can style them in so many different ways! You can add a scarf to any outfit, casual, formal or ethnic. Biba’s Yellow scarf with bold Blue and Black prints and their Red scarf with intricate prints are undoubtedly #fashiongoals.

5. Jewellery

Like makeup, colourful jewellery is a subtle way to add more colour to your wardrobe without drawing too much attention to yourself. You don’t have to stick to the usual Silver and Gold-coloured jewellery. Try different stones or dyed metals in your jewellery. The Gold bracelet from Estele is embellished with Purple stones is one such stylish choice. Their embellished studs in Blue and Gold will also light up your look.

6. Shoes

Who doesn’t like a gorgeous pair of shoes? They’re such a fashionable way to add a bit more colour to your wardrobe. A bright pair of heels added to a Black dress? Quirky colour-blocked sneakers with your athleisure? The combinations are endless! If you’re nervous to start off with colours that are too bright, you can first try a pair like Ginger’s textured ballerinas in Rust Orange or the muted Green textured ankle-strap heels.

7. Layers

Whether it is a heavy layer in winter or a lighter one on a cool summer evening, a colourful layer can do a lot for your outfit. When paired with other neutral colours, it will stand out all the more. For these warmer days, a solid knit shrug from Code in a subtle Lilac shade or the more noticeable open front shrug in Pink, also from Code, will make the right finishing touches.
