Even if you have only 5-10 minutes to spare, sit in a quiet and comfortable place, close your eyes and practice mindfulness.

Even though you are physically distancing from your loved ones, that doesn’t mean you have to be emotionally distancing from them too. Pick up the phone and call your close family and friends to feel less alone in this situation, to share stories and to simply put a smile on your face.

Staying positive isn’t only about staying happy. It is also about taking care of your body. Pay attention to how you feel physically and take the time to eat healthy and exercise – both known to be great mood boosters! Follow a well-balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins and take time out to exercise or stretch your body out every day.

6. Keep a gratitude journal

Keep a gratitude journal

Whether you have an active writing habit, or you’ve never written in a journal before, keeping a gratitude journal can help you stay focused on the present and feel more positive and most importantly, remain grateful for the good things in your life. You can take up 5-minute journaling by writing just 3-4 sentences on what you are grateful for on that day. It could be something simple like the pleasant weather outside or something more personal like getting a call from a long, lost friend. Set a time of day to pen down your thoughts.

7. Pause and take a break

Pause and take a break

When things get overwhelming, it’s time to pause, reflect and take a break. Sit back and enjoy a cup of tea, go for a walk on your terrace or within a safe space, stand on your balcony and enjoy the cool evening breeze, watch your favourite TV show or curl up with a book. Don’t put relaxing and unwinding on the back burner – schedule breaks into your to-do list if that works better for you!
